On Saturday, 20th July 2017 Mr. Wilkin’s Shilling Clog Dancers danced in front of the Chapel as we celebrated our Gift Day. With flowered bonnets, bell and rhythm sticks, jangling tambourines, arched garlands and a swish of red and black skirts, the dancers in their wooden clogs tapped out the rhythms of vibrant dances, originally inspired by mill workers, who long ago tapped their clog-protected feet to the rhythms of the looms. Their able band of musicians accompanied the dances, most of which originated in the traditions of the English textile industry, but the final dance had been especially written for Mr Wilkin’s Shilling Clog Dancers.

In between the dancers’ energetic performances, teas were served and there was opportunity to give gifts for the work and mission of the Chapel. The members would like to express their thanks for the generous gifts that were received.

The visit of the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir, arranged by Andrew Wright of ‘Fab’ in aid of Bathampton Methodist Church and held at Nexus Walcot Methodist Church, was a memorable evening, featuring an eclectic repertoire from folksongs to opera. There were also individual performances from the choir’s accompanist and conductor and talented members. The evening’s performance was truly inspirational. The event was sponsored and the refreshments provided by ‘Fab’.

This has been an eventful year for us as, on St. David’s Day, our oldest Steward, Kelvin Thomas MBE, entertained a full house with memories of his interesting life. Andrew Wright organised the evening, even making the Leek and Potato Soup himself! It was a great evening embracing, for many in the audience, a touch of nostalgia and many lingering happy memories.
